Default Printing: page count exceeds pages in tab

Troubleshooting a colleague's file: he wants to show "Page X of Y" in
the footer of a 5 page tab. Print preview shows "Page 7 of 5" and it
appears that way on paper as well. There are no hidden rows or
columns; no conflicting PrintArea named ranges; the expected number of
page breaks. What would cause this / what's the fix?

Default Printing: page count exceeds pages in tab

You don't state which version of Excel but in Page SetupPage you can
have a look at the "First Page Number"

Usually set to "Auto" but someone may have changed it to 3
