Default Excel and Smartphones / PDAs

I am researching buying a new mobile and would like to get a device that
allows me to create and edit excel workbooks. I am an accountant and
often need to do quick rough and ready calculations at meetings.

Is this possible with a mobile running Windows Mobile™ 2003 for
Smartphones or would I have to get something that runs Windows Mobile™
2003 software for Pocket PCs? Is the version of Excel that running on
these systems very different?

I know this is not a typical forum question but I am getting
exasperated talking to staff at high street shops who cannot understand
that I might be more interested in using Excel that playing games.
