Steve
Guessing it cannot be opened by another user on a network that would cause this also, then.... Sometimes, particularly after a sudden shutdown, etc Excel 'locks' a file. If simply rebooting does not release it then try opening Excel in safe mode (StartRun...type Excel.exe /safe). Open the file and then close it. That should fix it. If not try running detect and repair under help in Excel. Post back if you're still having issues. -- HTH Nick Hodge Microsoft MVP - Excel Southampton, England HIS "stevedmobile" wrote in message ... If it is on a network, then the rebooting should be performed on the server,
not just the individual machine. -- HTH, RD --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please keep all correspondence within the NewsGroup, so all may benefit ! --------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Nick Hodge" wrote in message ... Basically excel is loaded on my laptop. The files are local to me (on my hard
drive)and only i have the option to open them. i have recently copied the files from one laptop to another using a network connection as my old laptop went wrong in a big way. Try cleaning up all temp files. Depending on your version of Windows, you
should have a utility under: Start - Program File - Accessories - System Tools - Disk Cleanup -- Damon Longworth Don't miss out on the 2005 Excel User Conference Sept 16th and 17th Stockyards Hotel - Ft.
