Guessing it cannot be opened by another user on a network that would cause
this also, then....
Sometimes, particularly after a sudden shutdown, etc Excel 'locks' a file.
If simply rebooting does not release it then try opening Excel in safe mode
(StartRun...type Excel.exe /safe). Open the file and then close it. That
should fix it.
If not try running detect and repair under help in Excel.
Post back if you're still having issues.
