Default virus scanner has blocked this file

I get this message through the windows security center icon on the
windows toolbar everytime i try to open an excel file. I can open blank
documents but not any that are on my network or through email. Anyone
know a way to resolve this issue. I've tried uninstalling and
reinstalling office. Word works fine, it's a problem thats limited to
excel.

Apparently, your virus scanner, something like Norton Internet Security, is
not allowing .xls files. You should be able to go into the settings for
the virus scanner and allow .xls files.

Word files are .doc so the scanner sounds like it's allowing those. Hope
this helps!
