Does any one know the formula for converting positive figures to Negatives

If you're careful, you can do this without formulas.
Put -1 in an empty cell
copy that cell
select your cells to change (click on the first and ctrl-click on subsequent)
edit|paste special|check multiply

Clean up that helper cell with -1 in it.
