Default file names in excel

When I try to name a file all I get saved is the first letter of the title I
have entered.

What is set wrong?

WinXP?

Check to see if Excel is running in Windows 95 compatibility mode.

There was a post that said:
When I disabled compatibility mode the file name problem went away.
