Default error in excel 2003

i receive and error message stating " excel cannot complete this task with
available resources. choose less data or close other applications"
my computer has windows 2000 professional with office 2003 installed on it.
the config. of the m/c is P IV 2.8ghz 512 RAM and 40 GB HDD . I am working
in excel 2003 and have used up majority of the columns.each column calculates
a value using a formulae.the calculations go on in a chronological
manner.they r also interlinked.
my file size is 6.72 MB .
i am developing this pricing system in excel in where i have two sheets
which inputs data and other 3 sheets use this data and do calculations.i had
searched the microsoft knowledge base earlier but did not getany relevant
solution to my problem.
prior to this i would recieve another error message stating that " not
enough system resources to display completely" . i still recieve this
message. this message occurs whenever i am trying to key in data or
performing a calculations.
Please provide me with a solution.

Have you considered splitting up the data into several linked workbooks,
cutting the number of columns used and reducing the file size?

yes, i have considered doing that but it did not help. I am using 200 columns
* 36 rows in only one sheet. It is not possible to reduce the number of
columns but yes some columns which are less often used are hidden when not
needed.
I would be requiring 8 sheets with 200 columns * 1000 rows for calculations
only.
I would be also be using two sheets for input of data.
