Default How to rename the Excel button on the desktop?

I'm now running on XP professional. The Excel button on the desktop shows
the Excel symbol followed by Microsoft Excel - filename. shorten this to
just "filename" so that one can actually read the filename. In Windows 98
this was not a problem.

Further info: I now see that the file name is more readable as more buttons
accumulate in the desktop taskbar (bottom of window). The "Microsoft Excel"
goes
away then. Still this is initial naming is annoying ... but I can live with
it.
