how many arguements can i have in an ISTEXT formula

One. However you could evaluate multiple cells in a range with one formula.
For example:

=SUMPRODUCT(--ISTEXT(A1:A10))

will evaluate each cell in A1:A10. The formula results in a total count of
cells in A1:A10 that contain text strings.
