I'm doing financial reporting for an entire fiscal year different
distributors with over 49000 rows. First I would like to highlight cells that
have a higher price than the previous month. I then need a way in an
additional column to list the month in which the change occurred, is there
anyway I can format the spreadsheet to write the month in this additional
column??

I don't think you can do what you want with a format, conditional or
otherwise, but you should be able to create a formula which will
identify which month, (if any) and use a conditional format to make it
invisible unless there is a month which fits your criteria.

Not knowing how your spreadsheet is set up, all I can say is build a
formula which compares the month's price on the current line or coloumn
with the previous month's, giving you a true or false. Then pull the
month into the new column based on that true or false.
