No, no, no. Attachments are generally not welcome in newsgroups. Your
attachment may well be instructive and innocuous, be readers don't
know who you are and whether you're an upstanding citizen. We can't be
sure there isn't a Kill C:\CheckAccount.xls line in your code.

This isn't a binary newsgroup. If you want to "attach files" I recommend
you find a binary newsgroup.

First of all, I doubt that anyone at MS pays attention to these postings,
notwithstanding what MS claims ("most votes"). After all, MS does not pay
attention to problem reports regarding the MSDG web server or even the MSnews
server.

Second, I have successfully posting attachments to the MSnews server. This
requires that you use a different interface, e.g. Outlook Express or Windows
Mail. (There are many other ways.)

However, attachments cannot be read by some newsgroup (discussion group)
interfaces, e.g. Google Groups. Moreover, many people are duly cautious
about opening attachments, which breed viruses easily and "smum" (smutty spam
;-). So they are not helpful.

A better alternative is to put the file into another public repository, e.g.
Google Docs, then include a link to it in your posting here. I don't know if
files in such repositories are any safer virus/smum-wise. But at least they
will be available to all readers.
