Once was able to filter by color but option is no longer available on the
drop down menu

Such an ability isn't built in to Excel. If you did it in the past, it must
have been through some add-in or UDF.

Are you using xl2007?

Maybe you used xl2007 at work/home and a previous version at home/work???

Or maybe you used Ron de Bruin's easyfilter addin?

Excel 2007 has it built-in David.

Both sort by color and filter by color.
