Default Protect/Unprotect Worksheet

I have a workbook that is shared by many. The settings for protection are
different for each worksheet. I am suddenly unable to edit my worksheet
because it is protected and all the options with the exception of "unprotect
workbook" are disabled. Even when I unprotect the workbook, I still can't do
anything. Can anyone help me please? Thanks.

Do you see [Shared] after the workbook name on the title bar.

If so then Tools, Share Workbook ...,
uncheck Allow changes by more than one user at the same time.

If you turned on highlight change you would get a shared workbook
