Default How to auto place start/stop characters in Excel w/barcode fonts?

I have a spreadsheet that I can enter in a value into one cell and it will
show the corresponding barcode value in the cell next to it, using 3 of 9
barcode font.
What I need to be able to do is have Excel automatically place a start and
stop charcter at each end of the barcode for my software to read the barcode.
