Default Why won't formulas obey vertical alignment commands?

I have a spreadsheet with numbers and text. Many numbers are derived from
cell formulas. I can vertically align the text in all the cells in the
numbers/text worksheet, but if I change the numbers to display formulas only,
then the cell values automatically align at the bottom of the cell no matter
what I have set the alignment to be.

I just want to align the formulas at the tops of the cells so that I have
room to write underneath them on a printed copy. Is this possible?

Why not increase the Row height and write *above* them?

I have replicated your situation and realize what you are asking.

I have found this 'dumb' solution...

Change format of cells to align=top and Numbers=text. (Nothing happens to
numbers) Now if you use F2 to put focus directly into the cells, then hit
enter to drop to the next cell, the number (formatted as text) will change
from bottom alignment to top alignment.

Perhaps after this explaination someone will be able to produce a macro to
put focus in a cell, then enter to the next, so on and so forth.
