I'm trying to split text in one column into two separate columns with a
couple of exceptions. I need to paste a formula down a column to produce the following results in Column B & C Example: A B C 1 AAA1*111-1 AAA1 111-1 2 AAA2*111-2 AAA2 111-2 3 AAA AAA 4 Z Z |

You don't need formulae. Use Data/ Text to columns, and specify the
