I have two separate spreadsheets containing various data. One is the Summary
spreadsheet and another one is the Detail spreadsheet. In the Summary spreadsheet, I bring in the values of various cells from the Detail spreadsheets using the following method. For an example, I bring in value of cell D16 from the ExecSum tab in the Detail spreadsheet into the cell A10 in the Summary spreadsheet, I will do the following In Cell A10 of the Summary spreadsheet, it contains the following to bring the value ='C:\$User\My Folder\Data\[Datail.xls]ExecSum'!$D$16 If cell D16 in the ExecSum tab of the Detail spreadsheet contains a value "Hello". The work "Hello" will show up in Cell A10 of the Summary spreadsheet. What I found out a prpblem. As soon as I move both spreadsheets to other folder or simply rename the "Data" folder to "My Data" for example. All of my links DO NOT work anymore (not bringing any value) because it does not see the spreadsheet. Can someon please tell me how can I link the cells s.t. I can bring in the cells from the Detail spreadsheet regardless where the files are located ? Regards |

When moving files that are linked there are two way to make sure they still know where the file they are linked to is. One is to open both files and "save as" into another file or on a Rewritable CD. This allows the Fomulas in your form to recognize that the file is in a different file. Or sometimes I have Highlighted all the linked files and moved them at the same time (this works sometimes but for some reason not every time). If I am moving them into another computer usually I just make sure that my pathway is the same. Example. If I burn them on a disk that is not rewritable I make not that it is in C/Documents & Setting/all user/ pricing matrix. Then at home if that path is not on my home computer I create it till I move the files where I want them |
