Default excel 2003 cell formatting

All of a sudden I can only type one number (or Character) in a cell.

Say I'm wanting to type 2010, I type the 2, but when I go to type the 0, the
0 appears, but the 2 disappears.

Is this fixable by going to the preferences? If so, how?

Thanks in Advance,
