Default Vlookup help please

I'm trying to get some data from one tab into another tab and placed in the
right position.
My spreadsheet is layed out as followed

Tab 1 (a list of every single part numebr we use)
From cell A2 all the way down to line 10000, is a list of item numbers
From cell B2 all the way down to line 10000, is a list of item descriptions

Tab 2 (a list of all the current open orders)
From cell A2 all the way down to line 2000, is a list of vendor names
From cell B2 all the way down to line 2000, is a list of purchase orders
From cell C2 all the way down to line 2000, is a list of item numbers
From cell D2 all the way down to line 2000, is a list of dates
From cell E2 all the way down to line 2000, is a list of outstanding numbers
From cell F2 all the way down to line 2000, is a list of Order quantities

Whats I'm after is data from Tab 2 to populate into Tab 1 against the
relevent item number line

Is this possible with a Vlook up and do i need to change the layout of the
spread sheet in any way.
Kind Regards

Shane

I think it would be better to do a vlookup on tab 2 because the only thing
that you're missing is the item description. You can then do a pivot table
to summarize your information any way you like. I believe the only rules to
follow for the vlookup, the table that your're getting the information from
should be sorted ascending and make sure the format of the key field, (your
case the item number) is identical.
