hi all community members...
I have excel 2007 and sync all my office 2007 files to a online backup. unfortunately for excel this is not done I have to restart my computer (windows ultimate) for it to be synced (the company is €˜humyo which I think is one of the best...) I phoned them up and was told I must have €˜some sort of lock on these workbooks. I have been through the settings and thought it was privacy/personal information but am lost. can someone please help and I look forward to a reply. very much appreciated. Paul. |

I can't think of anything that is "some sort of lock" that would
prevent your backup from handling Excel files. Does the backup work for other files in a folder where an unbacked up Excel file resides? As far as the backup is concerned, there is no difference between file types -- all files are treated as just a big stream of bytes. Do you have the file open when the back up is performed? I use Carbonite for offsite backups and I have never had any problems related in any to Excel (no problems for any files, really). Hi Paul,
I'm part of the UI Team over at humyo.com. The problem that you are describing is caused by Excel locking the file while it's being used, this is done to prevent any other application making changes to the file while you have it open. As soon as you close the file humyo will instantly start syncing the file online. Our Development Team do plan to improve this in the future by implementing "shadow copying" functionality which would get around the file lock, how ever I'm not currently aware of any time scales for this feature. You would be best getting in touch with out support team or subscribing to the SmartDrive change log to be notified of any future improvements. The changelog for the Windows version of SmartDrive can be found here - http://blog.humyo.com/category/changelog/win/ |
