Default Why don't the Mini Toolbar commands work with numerical values?

When I use the mini toolbar to change numerical values to Bold or Italics, it
appears to work. But then when I leave the cell, either by pressing Enter or
clicking on another cell, the applied formatting disappears. It works great
with text but does not seem to work with numbers.

Have you checked to see if there any conditional formatting set? See Format
menu. XL03
