Default Unable to edit a worksheet from an OLE program

When I open a worksheet from another programme in which the Excel file is
linked. (ie Solidworks) I am unable to use any of the edit tools except
simple text editing. All of the toolbars etc are visible but cannot be
selected.
I have been able to access these tools on other computers - what do I need
to do to allow access on this PC?
Many thanks

Hi David-

Is the Excel workbook Protected or Shared?

If not, does the client program impose any sort of locking or protection on
linked objects?
