Default finding/adding to columns of spreadsheets

A1 and B1, A2 and B2, A3 and B3, etc. contain item codes that are matched.
this spreadsheet contains about 200 matches like this. i have another
spreadsheet (sheet X) full of data. lets say column C contains unit sales. i
need to i need a formula that says find the item # in A1 and B1 on sheet X
and add together column C. same thing for A2/B2, A3/B3, etc. can you help? is
this do-able?
