Default RAND() generates negative values???

I just tested RAND in Excel 2007 SP1 through 20 million iterations and did
not get a single negative number.

Office 2007 - Even though the description says:
"Returns a random number greate than or equal to 0 and less than 1, evenly
distributed (changes on recalculation)."
When I enter the formula and extend the cell down the column I get
negative
values.
What gives?
