Default Displaying & Printing cells with lotsa text

I have a spreadsheet where a column of cells can easily contain 1500
characters or more.

Problem comes when viewing it on screen or printing. We can put more
characters per cell in Excel 2007, but it still limits the row height and
width.

Worse, I can't seem to tell from the monitor what it's gonna look like when
it prints. That's very un-WYSIWYG.

When I tried double-clicking to autofit the row height, it worked
sometimes... and didn't work sometimes.

So I manually change the row height and use print preview. I'm not sure if
print preview is the way to go, however. Maybe, I should test print each row
change -- but that's very onerous.

Is there a way I can reliably tell if all the text in a cell is going to be
displaying or printing? Or a way I can quickly get the row height to be set
properly to print/display its contents?

I came up with my own workaround.

1) I created a blank row beneath the row with the cell with all the text
(same structure, of course).

2) Then merged the cell with all the text with the cell beneath.

This seems to fool Excel into displaying more info than the 409 pts that a
single row is allowed.

I haven't found a good way to ensure all the text will print (rather than
being cut off). With a single row (unlike the merged cells mentioned above),
I would double-click on the bottom row to autofit it. Then enlarge the row
just a bit -- about equal to 1 line. That usually opens up enuf space to show
the bottom. Np guarantees, tho.
