I am trying to set up a rule for conditional formatting that if cells
E58:E61 are less than zero - the font for cell f79 should be white. Is that

Be aware that F79 has not colour you will not be able to see the information
if the font is white
being in cell f79 go to conditional formating, new rule, where the formula
is, last option, enter

=$E$58:$E$61<0

then go to format, choose font colour

All less than zero? Any less than zero? Sum less than zero? ...

I can't get this to work in Excel 2007. I have done it many times in prior
versions of Excel, but since the upgrade, no such luck.

I have tried every formula I can think of, from naming the top cell in the
table -
eg CF applied to B:B, with formula=not(isblank(A2))
to naming the column e.g., rather than A2 above, using A:A
to naming the cell range e.g., rather than A2 above, using $A$1:$A$5 as you
suggested. b.t.w., I have also tried using each of these with and without
the $s, and also by using named ranges.

I want to highlight the cell in column B (indicating a pending entry) when
something is entered in the same row in column A (if A is blank, there is no
record yet for that row so there is no need for B to be highlighted). I will
also create another rule to un-highlight cell B when an entry is made in it
(making it no longer a pending entry).

BUT I can't even get CF to work in a single cell B2 when the criteria is
based on contents of another cell e.g. if A21, highlight B2.

What am I doing wrong?
