Default Default cell format has reverted to Time

I have a 2007 macro enabled workbook with 90 sheets. Suddenly the default
cell format has reverted to Time instead of General. When I insert a new
sheet, every cell is formatted to Time. Apart from re-bulding the entire
workbook, how can I correct this?

Hallo Tony,

on Home tab select cell format templates, right click General, click change,
select number format, click format, select general, click OK, make sure the
number format check box is checked and OK.

Hallo Tony,

I am using Excel 2007 SP2. In my version the group with the format templates
is under the Home tab just left of the group Cells.

Hallo Tony,

my apologies. The group is Styles and the first click is Format Styles. The
rest should be as in my first message.

Joachim:

Many thanks again, but I am really puzzled:

I downloaded SP2 and it told me that it was already installed.
I still cannot see "Format Template" anywhere on my ribbon, so
I went Office Button|Excel Options|Customize|All Commands
I cannot see "Format Template"
There is nothing in Help about "Format Template" either
Do you have "Format Template" in your All Commands?

After further searching on the Web, I found the answer, which is:
Home|Styles|Cell Styles
right click on "Normal"
Modify|Format|Number|General|OK|OK

Thanks for trying

Default Tony you Rock

Dear Tony,

Thank you so very much for returning to this post and posting the solution you eventually found. It helped me immensely with a similar problem I experienced with Excel 2007, when somehow my default cell format magically changed to Date on one of my very valuable, large-amount-of-time-invested spreadsheets.

I too was completely puzzled by Joachim's advice and could not make any sense of it.

I never would have thought to right click on Normal in the styles setting for this.

You're my hero.

thanks,

ted...
