Lately when I use Excel, if I try to open a file from within Excel the
file explorer locks up and I have to kill the application. However, if use Explorer outside of office to navigate to the file directly and double-click Excel engages fine. No other Office apps are affected and I've tried to do a Repair. (Office XP, Windows XP Pro SP3) thanks |

Excel locks up when you open that File|open dialog--not after you've selected
your file and clicked Open, right? If yes, then my guess is that you map to a network drive (or a few network drives). Can you close excel and open windows explorer (not internet explorer) and unmap those drives. Make sure you make a note of the sharenames and drive letters (if it fails, you may want to map those drives again).
