I have formulars in an excel spreadsheet. At the moment when I change a cell
the summing formula is not updating the total. The formula is correct but I
have to re sum the column for the total to adjust to the new total

Sounds like a calc mode issue (calc is accidentally set to manual mode).
Check that calc is set to automatic, via ToolsOptionsCalculation tab.
Options to change the calc mode are there.

Hi I just posted a similar question and this has answered my problem! I am
not sure why some of my worksheets have had the calc mode changed but at
least I can fix it now. Thanks!

The behaviour's like this. Excel will take the calc mode from that for the
1st book that's opened in the Excel session. Any subsequent books opened in
the same session will take on that 1st book's calc mode, irrespective of
their earlier saved calc modes. So you probably opened a 1st book which was
(unknown to you) earlier saved in manual calc mode.
