trying to type the ltr X in a column, and have it represent specific #'s from
a different column in it's rows. Is there a formula ?

Venturing a wild guess here. If you manually flag/mark the designated rows
in a col with say, the letter: X, you could then easily apply autofilter on
this col, and choose: X to immediately retrieve all flagged rows. No formula
needed, just a simple use of Excel's powerful autofilter feature. You can
just as easily copy the filtered results and paste it into another sheet for
whatever downstream calculations, etc
