Default Excel Spreadsheets

How can you change the top row from numbers to letters? I can't formulate
when the top row is all numbers and the side row is numbers also. I use to
have letters at the top for each column but now (don't know how it happened)
I have numbers. Please help!

Tools -- Options -- [General] tab: clear the checkbox next to "R1C1
Reference Style"
