when i try to calculate the sum function on my worksheet it returns the
whole function in text like for eg: =sum(A1:A5) returns the same text =sum(A1:A5) and it does not calculate the figures. thanks in advance |

Change the cell format to GENERAL.

You need re-enter the formula after chaning the format. or just F2 and enter..

Might you be in "Formula View"?
From the Menu Bar, <Tools <Options <View tab, Under Window Options, make sure that "Formulas" is *unchecked*.
