cant calculate sum function
 

when i try to calculate the sum function on my worksheet it returns the
whole function in text like for eg: =sum(A1:A5) returns the same text
=sum(A1:A5) and it does not calculate the figures.

Change the cell format to GENERAL.

It must be TEXT now.

You need re-enter the formula after chaning the format. or just F2 and enter..

Might you be in "Formula View"?

From the Menu Bar,
<Tools <Options <View tab,
Under Window Options,
make sure that "Formulas" is *unchecked*.

Keyboard shortcut to toggle this:
<Ctrl < `
with " ` " being the key (on my keyboard) under the <Esc key, and above the
<Tab key, with the " ~ " on the same key.
