I have Office 2000 loaded onto my PC, i also have a trial version of 2007. i
need to keep 2007 for the odd occassion that an excel 2007 spreadsheet is sent to me but as it is only a trial version many features cannot be used. When i get sent excel spreadsheets in emails 99% are in 98 or 2000 format. i want to open them immediately in excel 2000 but 2007 defaults in and i ant to change this so that it defaults to 2000 opening 2007 only when i get a spreadsheet produced in 2007 version - can anyone tell me how to default to 2000 instead of 2007 when opening an excel email attachment |

You could try the Office 2007 compatibility pack if you just need to open
2007 files. http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/pr...686761033.aspx That way you wouldn't need the trial version of 2007 installed. My thanks to those taking the trouble to respond to my problem - they are useful and i will look at them shortly, but it does not really tell me how to get excel 2000 to open an attachment ahead of 2007without deleting 2007 trial version. |

If you want to open .xls files with Excel 2000 and .xslx files with 2007 you
need to associate the .xls files with Excel 2000. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/307859 To change which program starts when you double-click a file, follow these steps: Open Windows Explorer by right-clicking the Start button, and then click Explore. Click a folder that contains a file of the type that you want Windows to open in a program that you select. Right-click the file and, depending on the programs installed on your computer, complete one of the following steps: Click Open With to choose the program that you want. Point to Open With, and then click Choose Program to choose the program that you want. The Open With dialog box is displayed. Use one of the following methods to select the program that you want to use for this file type: In the Programs list, click the program that you want to use. Click Browse, locate and then click the program that you want to use, and then click Open. Click Look for the appropriate program on the Web to browse the Internet for the program that you want to use. Click to select the Always use the selected program to open this kind of file check box if it is not selected. Click OK. Note From now on, Windows XP will open all files that have this file name extension in the program that you selected. To change this, you must follow these steps again and associate a different program with this file name extension. "colin 007" wrote: "Kimo" wrote: Sorry for the double post. With the compatibility package installed there is no need for the 2007 trial version. |
