Oh, that makes all the difference in the world. I just trashed a very long
message about the dangers of over-simplifying such endeavors. But for
school, we do it all the time :-(.

Most likely, you will use the FORECAST function.

Do you have historical data for a year or more? If so, first, you should
chart it to verify that it demonstrates a linear trend. Do you need help
with that?

Also, did the class project specifications hint at any other factors that
might affect the prediction of future sales? For example, is the sale of
vases seasonal? (Vases make great gifts around Easter and Christmas.)

You might try getting some national/regional projections for
your particular type of vase from publications, manufacturers or
industry organizations and applying those projections against
your sales for last year.

If for some reason you must use Excel...
Then post last years monthly sales in 12 adjacent cells in a column.
Select the data and hover the cursor over the bottom right
corner of the selection. It will turn into cross.
Drag down and you will get monthly projections.
As an alternative, drag the cross down while pressing the right mouse button.

I wouldn't bet the farm or your reputation on the accuracy of the forecast.

You must have some type of background data in order to estimate future
sales.

Or the services of a very good clairvoyant.
