Default Hyperlinks to another file are changed to unicode characters

I have a spreadsheet which has hyperlinks to other files. Some of these files
are .msg files .

The file name includes [ and ] characters.
When we create the hyperlink and click on it, the hyperlinked file opens
right up.
However, once we save the file, the [ and ] characters are replaced with
their unicode eqivelant %5b and %5d.

When we try to click on the hyperlinks, Excel gives us an error message.

Can someone suggest a workaround?

thanks,
Harry
