Default Filter for a symbol

I have a list of items and some of them contain the minus symbol (-). I want
to use auto filter to find only those items that contain the minus sign. But
when I select "contains", equals, and then type the minus sign in the
criteria field, it returns no values. How can I get this filter to work?
