big issue

hello guys....please help
i have :

in A1... "1"
in A2...."2"
in A3...."x"
in A4..."yard"
i want a formula wich says....give me the sum of A1 to A4 even if there is a
letter like "x" or a word like "yard".....
i would like to have the result "3"
how to do that ? sumproduct maybe ??

PLEASE HELP ME
