"Excel could not start the e-mail program" in Excel _2003_
We have a new machine right out of the box with XP SP(whatever is
latest) and Office 2003 SP3. When you attempt to use "Send to... Mail recipient" in Excel, it responds "Excel could not start the e-mail program". All references to this error refer to Excel 2002, and none of them talk about Excel 2003. Yes, Outlook is the default mail program No, Word is not my e-mail editor Yes, I can send and receive mail fine through Outlook Yes, the mail-related registry keys are set up correctly Yes, all office components are real, the same version, and came from a single CD Any ideas? "Excel could not start the e-mail program" in Excel _2003_
MS help comes through! This error can occur with any sort of
versioning problem - Outlook is newer than Excel, vice versa, or in this case, any other version of Office touched the machine. In this case the copy of 2007 Trial came pre-installed. We removed it, but it left "Office 2007 Primary Interop Components" behind. Removing this in Add/Remove programs fixed the problem. Hope it helps someone else! Maury |
