Default linking to a password protected book

I have a master spreasheet that serves as a source for many individual
worksheets. The master is comp plan data that is sensitive, so the master
sheet is password protected and located in a shared network folder. The
detination workbook is located in the individuals network folder.
My goal is to update the master and have it update the indivudals
spreadsheet (their comp plan) located in their network folder.
How to I protect the master information while allowing the individual's
worksheet to get updates?
Thank you
