Our timesheets at work are set-up so that entering a value like 30/01 will
return 30 Jan in the cell and 30/01/2009 in the formula bar. However, a new colleague has an issue whereby entering 30/01 will return the values of 30/01 in both the cell and the address bar. Looking at 'Format Cells', the normal set-up is custom dd-mmm (which Excel automatically sets up once data is entered - it loads a sheet with general formatting). Changing the colleagues setting does not seem to change what helps in the sheet. Emailing the sheet to another user restores the expected results. Is there something obvious that needs changing? We use Excel 2003. Any help appreciated |

The formatting of cells affects how a number is *displayed* (if it is
recognised as a number, as distinct from text). The thing which affects how a number typed in is interpreted is not the cell formatting but the Windows Regional settings (in Control Panel). -- David Biddulph "TeeJay" wrote in message ...
