i've seen this happen when the network has lost track of the workbook ...
choose file / save as and try and save to your local hard drive if that doesn't work, open a new workbook and save it and then use the move or copy sheet option to COPY each sheet into the new book, saving the new book after you do each one GOOD LUCK -- Cheers JulieD check out www.hcts.net.au/tipsandtricks.htm ....well i'm working on it anyway "MoTo" wrote in message ... i had open a huge speadsheet with about 20 + sheets typing away inserting figures for a year end document and went to save and a message appeared saying document unable to save! why did this do this and how can i save it without loosing my changes? |

this happens all the time where I work, usually on very large spreadsheets,
and it's a PAIN to copy everything one sheet at a time, is there any way to prevent it? running excel 97 and 2000 with latest service packs. |

the network i had this problem with was a linux network running office
applications (don't know the full story) but we "overcame" the problem with the following solutions - 1) changed all our file names to 8 or less characters with no spaces or symbols 2) SAVED regularly 3) complained the IT guys (not sure they actually did anything) other than that, the only option that i know of, is to copy the file to your local machine, work on it and then copy it back to the network ... just don't get confused as to which is the latest file and don't tell your IT guys i told you to do this! :) -- Cheers JulieD check out www.hcts.net.au/tipsandtricks.htm ....well i'm working on it anyway "dlw" wrote in message ... this happens all the time where I work, usually on very large spreadsheets, and it's a PAIN to copy everything one sheet at a time, is there any way to prevent it? running excel 97 and 2000 with latest service packs. |
