Default Unable to Open Excel

I'm using Office 2007 SP1 w/ Win XP SP 3.
I can open Excel files that I've saved but I get "Not Responding" when I
try to open a new spreadsheet.
I've run Office Diagnostics and everything checks out.
Where do I go from here?

Until you determine the problem, I suggest that you open an old workbook,
clear everything out and save it as Book1.

At leat then you will a a starting point for new workbooks.
