Default MID funtion with conditional format

i am trying to use MID function as formula in conditional format -
=MID(C9,5,1)=X

if the 5th char of cell C9 is the letter "X", then i want to apply color to
the cell as my conditional format.

can't get the formula to work....

Rookie mistake....i forgot about the quotes....thanks for your help.
