Hi I have Excel 2007 with Windows XP and 4GB's of RAM, Is there a way to
optimize memory so Excel can stop hanging when there are too many files open or do we have to live with this problem? Thank you |

Hi,
There are no ways I know of to optimize Excel's memory usage. You 1. could close all other applications 2. Open fewer files (it's probably not really the number of files but their complexity and size), 3. Free up more hard disk space sometime helps, 4. Changing the swap file size in Windows may also help, 4. defragging the hard disk might help. Excel 2007 allows up to 2GB of memory usage (supposedly). But XP only supports up to 3 GB (32 bit system). I did a little test on my machine and had no problem opening 100 blank files without crashing. I'm on Vista with Office 2007 in this case. -- If this helps, please click the Yes button Cheers, Shane Devenshire "Vic Abrahamian" wrote: Hi I have Excel 2007 with Windows XP and 4GB's of RAM, Is there a way to optimize memory so Excel can stop hanging when there are too many files open or do we have to live with this problem? It's probably complexity of the files and some of them are 100 or more tabs
and linked to other files etc.. How do big company's who need to have huge excel files etc. do it then? Do they use lots of small files or do they use a different application I wonder.
