Default Decimal symbol not converting

Regional option is set to a locale where decimal symbol is the comma. When
importing text data that has numbers with periods, XL '02 and '03
automatically convert the periods to commas, but '07 does not - as a result,
the import is treated as text. Any workaround?

You should be able to specify the column as number while importing...

Workaround
Search and replace period with comma in the range required.
Enter 1 anywhere, copy it, select the range with your numbers as text and
choose PASTE SPECIAL|Multiply... it will convert text to numbers...

Hi,

I'm not sure this will work but try:

Choose Office Button, Excel Options, Advanced, and under Editing options,
play with the Use system separators option. If necessary uncheck it and add
your own.

If this helps, please click the Yes button.

I cannot reproduce this when I make regional setting German (Austria) to get
comma for decimal maker. My TXT file opens in XL2007 the same as in XL2003 -
as numbers
best wishes
