Default Why is my text cell showing as # symbols when entered

It is not because the cell is too small. I have wrapped the text and it shows
the text when I double click on cell, but when I click to another cell it
only shows # symbols. It seems like the cell is merged incorrectly, but I
have unmerged cells and redone the merge and nothing has changed.
