Default Subtotals

When I insert subtotals sometimes to the left I get a 1,2,3 where I can
collapse the subtotals. For some reason those numbers to the left are gone
now. Why is this? I went to tools options, but I was unable to find
anything.

Default Subtotals

In ToolsOptions, go to the View tab
Under Window Options, add a check mark to Outline symbols
