Default Vlookup

In my spreadsheet in cell A3. I have a number 001700.
In my next spreadsheet rates, the number is displayed as 1700.
When I use this forumla, excel doesn't recognize this as the same number.
I have tried changing the format so the numbers look the same, but still no
luck.
What am I doing wrong?

=IF(ISNA(VLOOKUP(A3,RATES'!$A$1:$B$172,2,FALSE)),0 ,VLOOKUP(A3,RATES'!$A$1:$B$172,2,FALSE))

Default Vlookup

Multiply both nos by 1 into the adjacent cell
=A3*1
and see whether it works

Most likly you have 1700 as the number in your cell which is formatted as
'000000' hence showing as 0001700
or you might have it as text. In that case you can EDIT|PASTE SPECIAL|VALUE
the cell you get after using the formula =A3*1
